Report
If you have never been to a podiatrist before, you may be nervous about your upcoming visit. Don't be! Millions of people see podiatrists every year for help with their feet, ankles, and lower legs. Did you know the average person takes about 10,000 steps every day? That is a lot of stress on your feet!
Diabetic Foot Care
Report
Diabetics can present with unique issues such as chronic wounds as well as severe deformity of the foot call Charcot Arthropathy. Charcot is a condition, typically in the poorly controlled diabetic, of the foot and/or ankle in which severe deformity can develop. The bones can fracture and collapse without any pain experienced by the patient.
Hammer Toe
Report
If your toes press up against the fronts of shoes you wear often, you might eventually develop a hammertoe or a toe that is always bent. At VP Foot & Ankle Specialist in the Printer's Row and the Garfield Ridge neighborhoods of Chicago, Illinois, Aaron Raestas, DPM treats hammertoes using conservative therapies and supportive devices.
Plantar Fasciitis
Report
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It is caused by the irritation and inflammation of the large band of tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes (plantar fascia). Some symptoms include stabbing pain that usually occurs in the mornings. As you walk around on the foot the pain normally decreases, but it can return after standing for long periods of time.
Bunions
Report
Bunions are painful bone deformities in the big toe. When the toe is misaligned, the joint in the toe grows larger, creating a protuberance over time. These lumps can cause constant pain from rubbing against shoes, which in turn, irritates the joint resulting in a large bump. If treated early, bunions can be corrected.
