Kim is a longtime commercial-rated pilot and advocate of state aviation. He was first introduced to state aviation in 1992, having been appointed Director of the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics by then Governor Ben Nelson where he served for six years. In 2001, he became a part of the team at the Arizona Department of Transportation - Aeronautics Division serving as Deputy Division Director.
From 2013 to 2018, Kim worked in Washington D.C. as the Director of Communications and Operations for the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO). From 2019 - 2021 he worked as an Ambassador in Guest Services for the Raleigh Durham Int'l Airport. Prior to his career in aviation Kim held various positions in the newspaper and magazine business spanning twenty years.
