Backstage Dance has been dedicated to dance education since 2006, offering comprehensive training for children and teens of all skill levels. Our Knoxville-based studio provides structured programs in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, and Acro, with specialized classes for young beginners. Under Artistic Director Talia Childers, we combine technical excellence with character development, fostering discipline, confidence, and creativity.

Our faculty prioritizes individual growth through small class sizes and personalized attention, while our pre-professional Releve' Elite Company prepares serious dancers for competitive careers. We maintain a supportive environment that values teamwork, respect, and lifelong skills, serving both recreational students and aspiring professionals in East Tennessee.

Ballet Classes

Our Ballet program develops technical precision and grace through structured training. Students learn classical techniques, proper body alignment, and performance skills. Classes emphasize musicality, discipline, and artistic expression while building foundational dance abilities applicable to all styles.

Performance Teams

Performance Teams offer enhanced stage experience through community events and competitions. Dancers develop teamwork, stage presence, and versatility across multiple genres. This program focuses on collaborative performance skills and professional presentation standards.

Releve' Elite Company

Releve' Elite Company provides pre-professional training for serious dancers. The program includes advanced technique classes, choreography workshops, and competition preparation. Students receive personalized coaching to develop technical mastery and performance artistry.

Acro Classes

Acro combines dance and tumbling techniques to develop flexibility, strength, and coordination. Classes focus on safe progressions for tricks while maintaining proper dance form. Students learn to integrate acrobatic elements seamlessly into choreography.

Hip Hop Classes

Our Hip Hop program teaches street dance styles with emphasis on rhythm, musicality, and personal expression. Students learn current trends and foundational moves while developing improvisation skills in a high-energy environment.

Talia Childers

Artistic Director

Talia Childers leads Backstage Dance with over 15 years of dance education experience. She develops curriculum, oversees faculty training, and directs studio operations while maintaining hands-on involvement in student development.

What age ranges do your dance classes accommodate?

We offer classes for children starting at age 2 through teens. Our Terrific Two's classes introduce young dancers, while advanced programs cater to serious students up to 18 years old.

Do you offer different skill level classifications?

This studio goes above and beyond in EVERYTHING they do. The quality of instruction is unbeatable. Ive been to my fair share of dance recitals and most are so boring. You are literally asleep in your chair until your child comes on stage. But their recitals are so entertaining! Its like being at a Broadway show. And most importantly they will treat your child like gold.

My daughter has been attending BDC for 7 years (since 2009) and has received exceptional instruction. They have taught her poise, confidence and a love for dance. In reference to the negative review, there are extra fees at every studio you go to. Yes, there is a charge to receive a ticket to the recitals & programs and even for the costume to perform in. The recital tickets range in price from $8 to $12, not $20 like stated. These instructors take time to teach our children & you get out what you put in. I recommend Backstage Dance Company.

Both of our daughters have taken classes here. This studio is better organized than others in the area, which is a big plus. Being able to watch the kids on a monitor during class is also nice. Minus 1-star because of the never-ending focus on recitals, but that seems to be the story at all these dance studios.
