Artisan Bakery in Houston | Slow Dough Bread Co
At Slow Dough Bread Co, we carry forward a legacy of baking excellence that spans five generations and over 130 years. Our journey began in 1886 with Adam Schmitt's bakery in Germany, evolving through decades of craftsmanship and dedication to quality. Heath Wendell, a fifth-generation baker, and his wife Marlo founded our company in 2009, combining traditional techniques with modern innovation. We specialize in artisan breads made with natural ingredients, no artificial additives, and time-honored fermentation processes. Our commitment to quality has made us Houston's largest all-natural bakery, serving over 500 wholesale accounts across Texas and beyond. We operate a state-of-the-art facility equipped with advanced production lines while maintaining the care and attention to detail passed down through our family. Our daily fresh bread deliveries reach restaurants, retailers, and food service providers through our dedicated fleet of 15 trucks. We uphold rigorous quality control standards, including HACCP certification, ensuring every loaf meets our exacting specifications. Beyond baking, we actively support our community through food waste reduction initiatives with Houston's Second Servings. With a heritage rooted in tradition and an eye toward innovation, we continue to craft bread that brings people together, one loaf at a time.

We produce frozen bread options for nationwide distribution. Our frozen line includes pretzel buns, brioche, and specialty loaves that maintain quality through flash-freezing technology. This service enables restaurants and retailers outside Texas to access our artisan breads.

Their hamburger buns are phenomenal! I get them from the HEB in Schertz (suburb of San Antonio). I'm not a huge bread fan either, but these are great!

Great bread! Great customer service from Jose A! I believe he's the supervisor? If bread is running behind they try so hard to get it to you as long as you do a quick a.m phone call that you need it by a certain time that day. They always try working with you and it's worth it for their fresh amazing bread!!
