Edgecumbe Preschool was incorporated in 1976 by a group of passionate parents who wanted to offer a rich early learning experience to the children of Sitka. In the 43 years since we have become a vibrant and well-respected component of the local community. We offer morning and afternoon preschool classes and a kindergarten after-school program, and serve approximately 50 children each year.

Encourages the child to question, hypothesize, experiment, discover, solve problems and develop cognitive processes. Recognizes the value of play in a child's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Classroom themes, projects and activities often emerge from the children's interests or from events in the life of the classroom or larger community.
Our Staff

I bring songs and stories to the children of Mt. Edgecumbe Preschool. Often I start the day with our students singing songs and end the day with them bundled up for outside play. My background in early childhood education started in 1998. After a couple years of studying psychology I discovered playing & doing projects with children was much more fun than studying their behavior.
