For David Shelist, owner of the Denim Lounge, three qualities make up a great pair of jeans: comfort, durability and wash. However, in 2001, he was unable to find jeans that met all these criteria in his area of Chicago. So, like any good entrepreneur, David converted the basement of Madison & Friends (the children's clothing store he owned with his wife, Wendi) into the Denim Lounge.
From the newly-converted basement David began selling denim lines previously unavailable in the current market. His stock included several brands he discovered, and fell in love with, on a trip to New York City. Thirteen years later, the Denim Lounge is going strong.
