It all started with an Irish immigrant with an entrepreneurial spirit, determined to make a comfortable living in his new home of Canada. In 1970, the late Desmond Rice launched Weed Man Lawn Care with his wife, Brenda, to meet the rising demand for professional lawn care, weed control, and pest management services in his local community.
Armed with a single pickup truck and a passion for creating healthy outdoor spaces, Des soon became known by neighborhood children as the "Weed Man." It wasn't long before Des and Brenda managed to turn Weed Man into Canada's premier lawn care company, and, in 1976, the two began extending the brand's reach by franchising the concept nationwide.
