General Dentistry Overview
Report
Dental health is the totality of oral health, including teeth, gums, and other maxillofacial (jaw and face) areas. Dentists work to prevent, diagnose, and treat the disorders and diseases affecting these areas. Like all medical professionals, dentists prefer preventative care when at all possible.
What Are Dentures
Report
When patients lose some or all of their teeth, they may receive prosthetic teeth, commonly known as dentures. When tooth removal is indidcated, immediate dentures or a temporary partial denture may be placed the day of surgery in order for the patient to never have to go without teeth. These dentures are designed for healing with the intent of a permanent replacement 3-6 months after.
Denture Adjustments
Report
Even with complete dentures, you still need regular dental checkups. This ensures your dentures continue to fit properly, and allows your dentist to notice signs of trouble. In addition, humans tend to adjust quickly, even when experiencing discomfort. An issue with your dentures may exist that you just don't notice.
Denture Repairs & Relines
Report
There are three types of denture relines: hard reline (general maintenance), soft reline (for tender or sore gums), and temporary relines (palliative care when ready for new dentures). A hard reline should occur every two years. Dr. Pease fits the denture with a soft material suitable for taking a gum impression.
Implant Dentures
Report
Unlike removable dentures that rest on the gums, implant dentures affix to implants attached directly to the jawbone. They are more common in the lower jaw, which offers a less stable support for dentures than the upper jaw offers. The implant replaces the hidden part of your tooth, the root, and secures to the jawbone while remaining invisible above the gum line.
