Schug Carneros Estate Winery celebrates the 40th anniversary of its first vintage, made when a passion for Pinot Noir led patriarch Walter Schug to establish his own label and eventually leave Joseph Phelps, where he was the founding winemaker crafting wines that put Napa Valley on the map. Now the family-owned winery is entering a new chapter, with dynamic young German-American winemaker Johannes Scheid bringing modern touches to the estate's European-styled wines.
Schug's 100-year-old heritage - stemming from a Pinot Noir estate in Germany's Rheingau region originally planted in the 12th century - spanned an era of pioneering winemaking in Napa Valley before putting down roots in the cool-climate, wind-swept Carneros hills in Sonoma.Today, Walter's children are preserving their family's rich winemaking legacy for generations to come.

Get speedy delivery! The Schug Estate vineyard, planted in 1989, sits at the base of a high ridge at the windy Western edge of the Carneros AVA in Sonoma County. This bottling highlights several clones of Chardonnay grown on individual blocks. The Wente selections grown on the loamy soil of Blocks 3 and 5 have smaller berries which give the wine a rich texture when young, and in time develop an oily, succulent mouthfeel.

Our Rouge de Noirs is made with 100% Carneros Pinot Noir and is much like a brut Rose. But it's ever so slightly darker in color since it has a little more skin contact when it's first made. The flavors and bouquet shadow our other Pinot Noirs but show delicacy and elegance. We love pouring this wine!
