Dr. Downes, a native of New Mexico, graduated from Tulane University, Summa cum laude, with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He then returned to Albuquerque to obtain his medical degree at the University Of New Mexico School Of Medicine.
Dr. Downes completed his Internship in Pennsylvania at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and completed his residency in Ophthalmology at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, where he also served as Chief Resident.During this time, he traveled to the world-renowned Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India to complete specialized surgical training.
