Mr. Waller, a leading entrepreneur and pioneer in Richmond's black business community at the turn of the century, worked for an insurance company, invested in real estate, and owned a grocery store before deciding to concentrate on the watch and jewelry repair business. Mr. Waller opened his watch repair shop in 1900 in Richmond's Carver district.
