He spent his entire school career in Tennessee, attending East Tennessee State University for his bachelor's degree in Biology, the University of Tennessee for his master's in Biochemistry, and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis for his Doctor of Optometry.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Licensed Optician Mark Marlow grew up in nearby LaFollette, Tennessee and graduated from Roane State in Harriman, Tennessee. Mark says, "My aunt was an optician, so it was a profession that I was always around and as I got older it became something I became interested in as a profession."
