Optical Conference tomography (OCT) is the latest technological advance which provides cross-sectional images of the retina in real time. It is similar to ultrasound and MRI, but uses light waves, and therefore allows the production of higher resolution images. OCT provides a histological view in situ and real time.

In standard lenses, offered just about everywhere, when one looks away from the center of the lens, inherent optical flaws appear, causing distortion and the "Coke bottle" effect. Freeform lenses minimize this optical restriction by broadening the clear center, so when the user looks to the sides, the clarity remains just as good as the center "sweet spot" of the lens.
