Classes run 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, focusing on foundational skills like social interaction, basic concepts, and motor development. Parent-assisted learning enhances classroom engagement while building parental expertise in early education methods.
3-Day Preschool Program
Targeted at 4-year-olds, this three-day program extends learning opportunities with longer sessions Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. From 9:00 AM to 12:15 PM, children engage in advanced curriculum elements preparing them for kindergarten. Activities emphasize literacy readiness, collaborative projects, and enhanced social skill development through guided classroom interactions.
Parent Education
Mandatory monthly education sessions run concurrently with general meetings, covering child development topics. Parents learn evidence-based strategies for fostering growth at home, with specialized training in conflict resolution and communication techniques. This instruction component ensures families gain practical skills applicable beyond school hours.
Fundraising Opportunities
Various annual fundraising initiatives help sustain operations while building community spirit. Events like Trike-a-Thon and Poinsettia Sales offer family-friendly participation options. A buy-out option allows direct financial contribution, with all proceeds directly supporting preschool resources and facility maintenance.
Parent Participation
Parents contribute as classroom assistants, with work schedules varying by program (2-3 mornings monthly). Our daughter went to this school back in the 80s. Now, at 60, I look back and realize how much of an impact this school had on me personally and my family. The bonds we formed with the other parents taught me a lifetime of teamwork. Parent Participation is a wonderful concept. Did you Serra was one of the very first and vanguard for other Parent Participation schools? It's not for everyone, because you have to be involved. I am still on PTA boards, for our grand children's schools, a direct result of my days at Serra.
