Dr. Tim Gaffrey was born in Redlands, California and grew up in California and Virginia. He played tennis and ran cross country in high school and is an Eagle Scout. As an undergrad, Dr. Gaffrey majored in forestry at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and originally aspired to be a firefighter (can you spot him in the picture of the forest firefighters?).
