Why is radon testing important? Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer. You can't see or smell radon. Testing is the only way to know your level of exposure. Radon gas can be found in just about anywhere, especially in Franklin and surrounding counties which are noted as "Zone 1" by the EPA for having predicted average indoor radon screening levels higher than normal.
