Why Shenandoah Smiles
Report
And the utmost professionalism: At Shenandoah Smiles, we know it's often difficult for children to be fully at ease when they visit the dentist. That's why Dr. Melissa Gibson and her team go to such great lengths to ensure that their young patients are as comfortable as possible every minute they're with us.
Child’s First Visit
Report
Your child's initial trip to the dentist should occur, believe it or not, before his or her first birthday. This will enable us to assess your child's oral health at a very early stage, and enable you to meet, question and get comfortable with Dr. Gibson and the entire Shenandoah Smiles dental team.
Infant Oral Health
Report
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that all children make their initial visit to the dentist before their first birthday. These early visits are beneficial for parents, as our team's focus will be on reviewing important growth, development and oral-health milestones, as well as diet and hygiene pointers.
Fluoride
Report
A substance that helps teeth resist decay by making their enamel stronger and increasing the rate of remineralization at the beginning of the cavity stage, fluoride is an important part of a child's dental health. Nearly every municipality in the United States fluoridates its water supply; regularly drinking water treated with fluoride in addition to brushing and flossing every day significantly reduces a child's risk of getting cavities.
Gum Treatment
Report
One important challenge for dental practitioners nowadays is making kids aware of the strong connection between oral health and whole-body wellness. That begins with taking care of the gums - unhealthy gums mean unhealthy teeth, with possible negative effects on the rest of the body as well. As we get older, gum disease is the source of a host of ailments: bleeding, swelling, bad breath, pain, receding gums and tooth loss.
