The Swartz Nurseries was started in the 1860's as Swartz & Sons Fruit by John Jacob Swartz and his son, John F. Swartz. In the beginning we primarily specialized in growing fruit trees and fruit crops. Later in 1888 John F. Swartz took over the management of the business and the firm went into the growing of ornamental nursery stock and landscape work.
With his three sons, Harold, Roy, and Glenn; the firm expanded in the early 1900's. Lawn work, installation of rock gardens, growing of perennials and moving of large frozen ball shade trees increasingly became the main focus of the nursery. Glenn Swartz took over the management of the firm during the 1940's and the nursery began to specialize in the growing and installation of trees, shrubs and evergreens.

We have a staff that is knowledgeable, educated, and customer friendly. Our personal service and quality sets us apart from the large chain and box stores. While many garden centers ship plants in from all over the country, our locally grown plant material will be adapted to your soils and climate for better transplanting success.
Limited Warranty
Report
Groundcovers, perennials, vines & sod These are mostly small plants which are verysusceptible to moisture stress and winter injury after planting, over which we have no control. We can only warranty these plants to be healthy at the time of sale. Warranties do not cover acts of God, frost, drought, animals, insects, neglect or mechanical damage.
Landscaping
Report
Because a successful home landscape depends on a good design and the right plants. A landscape must be designed to develop and improve as it ages. We often see plantings which look nice when first installed, but do not look attractive a few years later because the wrong types of plants were used for that situation and site.
Plant Care
Report
The following instructions contain basic information on the care of our plant material. The biggest mistakes we find in plant care is watering too much and planting too deep. Please review these instructions and if you do have any questions or concerns regarding care and maintenance of plant material, please call us at the nursery.
