Orthodontic Disorders
Report
Orthodontic disorders refer to a variety of alignment issues involving the teeth and jaws. The optimal position for the teeth (known as a bite) is defined when the upper teeth meet in front of the lower teeth on both sides of the mouth. Virtually not too many people have perfect bite alignment, but fortunately many of us do not suffer greatly due to this.
Treatment times vary depending on your age, the severity of your bite issues, your cooperation, and the degree of movement required. The average treatment lasts anywhere from 6 to 30 months or longer. Extraction therapies involve the removal of some teeth to make room for others. Non-extraction therapies expand your jaw and file in-between the teeth (a procedure called Inter-proximal reduction) in order to help them fit within the jaw.
Emergency Care
Report
Most people who wear braces undergo treatment without a single problem. However, accidents can happen. You can keep any issues at bay by engaging in a sound oral hygiene routine, avoiding hard or crunchy foods, and by scheduling regular visits with Dr. Nikaeen. All of these practices can help to reduce emergency situations to ensure treatment is successful from beginning to end.
Oral Hygiene
Report
Brushing and flossing your teeth is always important, but even more so during orthodontic treatment. Braces, wires, springs and rubber bands attract food and plaque very easily. This means that it is easy to fall into a trap of staining, tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath. It can be difficult to fully clean your teeth and gums when using braces (unless you use Invisalign), and it requires careful brushing and flossing.
