For example, in the middle 1980's we began offering a then-revolutionary self-help protocol to patients with gum disease so tooth loss was not inevitable. Also about that same time, we began restoring front teeth simply to improve their appearance in the smile.
Then, in the early 1990's we began routinely viewing back teeth with the magnified image from an intraoral camera. This was done so that problems could be detected before toothache was evident. In 1995, we threw away dental amalgam, because metal fillings were showing to be much more harmful to tooth structure than the modern metal-free alternative.

Meet Our Staff

Timothy Loughran, DDS, grew up in Centralia. Dr. Loughran graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree. Then, he received his dental education and degree from Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago. In 1989, Dr. Loughran earned the status Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.

All fees for services performed in our office are fully explained at the time appointment commitments are made. We are proud of our fees and believe they compare favorably with fees of similar dental practices in the Marion-to-Carbondale area. We cannot know what the quality of service a particular fee would garner you in any other office, but we always know what advantages and benefits you will receive from us.

Cavities in our children's teeth are caused by the sticky snacks they eat and sugar in the liquids they drink. Infants go to sleep with juice or milk in sip-cups. As we move through our adult years, our dental health faces real challenges. And, as a Herrin dentist, we see these challenges every day. Tooth decay is the major component of adult dental disease. Sugary liquids sipped throughout the day and candy habits, are the primary causes of cavities. Back teeth restored with dental fillings in our younger years become weaker over time, so broken back teeth can become an issue for us.
