Trusted Non-Profit Medical Services in North Adams
Northern Berkshire Healthcare was established in 1984 to unify local healthcare providers under a single mission of community-focused care. Our organization grew to include North Adams Regional Hospital, Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, and REACH for Community Health, becoming the second-largest employer in northern Berkshire County. With over 550 employees, we contributed millions to the local economy through comprehensive services ranging from acute hospital care to public health initiatives. Our history traces back to 1885 with NARH and 1911 with the VNA, reflecting deep roots in the region. We pioneered integrated healthcare models, including the creation of CompCare in the 1980s, which later merged with VNA to expand home health services.REACH Community Health Foundation, launched in 1998, addressed preventable diseases and health education through grant-funded programs. Despite closing in 2014 due to financial challenges, our legacy includes decades of medical innovation, community wellness initiatives, and patient-centered care. Our OB/GYN and family medicine practices continued serving patients post-closure, maintaining our commitment to compassionate healthcare. Operating as a not-for-profit, we prioritized local governance and reinvestment in healthcare infrastructure, including state-of-the-art facilities and advanced medical technology.
