Most roofing warranties offered in the market today are "limited lifetime" warranties that cover the shingles only and prorate after 10 years. About 10 years ago most major shingle manufacturers changed their warranties from 30, 40 or 50 year warranties to limited lifetime warranties. Like earlier warranties these warranties pro-rate from 100% coverage in the first year to only 20% in year 50. To "sweeten" the warranty manufacturer's cover both labor & material for the first 10 years, after which only material is covered.
