Every car, truck, motorcycle and trailer registered in New York State needs an inspection once a year. We do very thorough inspections, and will even alert you of potential hazards on you vehicle, even if they are not NYS Inspection items. Performing a thorough inspection is important to us; we have friends and family out on the road and want to make sure we are doing our part to ensure the safety of all motor vehicles in the area.
Vehicle Alignments

Wheel alignments are a necessary service for every vehicle and should be done at least once a year. With the North Country roads throughout the Adirondacks, a vehicle's steering & suspension components can easily be "knocked" out of alignment. We suggest having your vehicle aligned every spring, when you have new tires, or when steering/suspension components are replaced.

I got a service message on my car that I needed to add oil, somehow I broke the thingsamabob that opens the hood of my car so I couldn’t add the oil. I googled” family owned repair shops “ and took the car to Hoffman’s with my 89 year old uncle in it on a blistering hot day. They helped me open the hood, they helped me fill the oil and they treated me (a seasonal resident) with kindness and fairness. I left with the biggest smile on my face. On a ski vacation from out of state and had the same issue of our Toyota 4Runner intermittently not starting. Hoffman auto fit us in, diagnosed the issue and fixed it. This was the 5th place we have been over 2 years and other attempts included replacing the fuel pump, gas tank; air censor, battery, sparkplugs and other failed diagnostics, but no one else fixed the actual problem. It ended up being a tricky electrical issue involving an aftermarket component that had been partially removed, but never re-wired correctly. Hoffman’s Auto went above and beyond. We were stranded at a rest stop and needed a tow ASAP. Hoffman’s sent a tow truck to the rest stop and towed our car directly to their shop. Once at the shop they were able to diagnose and fix this issue fast. Their customer service and compassion for our situation was more than we could ever expect. Stopped by to get a tire repaired before heading home to PA. Was told they were too busy unless I could leave the car all day - not possible. Asked if there was another place who could do the job. Their answer - "I guess so." I asked if they could recommend someplace. Their answer - "no". Least friendly and helpful place I've encountered in a long, long time.

Brought my car in for a replacement of the struts and some other smaller repair work. While it was on the lift, the tech broke the CV joints! This resulted in a delay of 7 additional days to get my car back. They comped the repair of the thing they broke but when I came to pick up the vehicle, nobody in the office was wearing a mask even though they have many signs stating customers are required to do so. I asked the person behind the desk to please put on a mask and he wouldn't! They screwed up my husband's car a year or two ago and I kept telling my husband he was wrong, this was a good service

I recently had my car die on Main Street in Lake Placid, I called AAA for a tow and selected Hoffman Auto because we regularly get tire/oil service from them.
They took my car to the shop, but then called and suggested they bring it up to the Honda dealership in Plattsburgh, because my car was still under warranty.
That was a big savings of time and money! I have a AAA+ membership which includes 100 miles of towing, plenty to cover the trip to Plattsburgh. Thank you, Hoffman Auto!
Now, if only the dealership could figure out what's wrong with my poor minivan...

These people treated my car like an old junker! Grease on white leather, scraped spoiler from flatbed which I saw happen. Now have an oil leak AND hit the front cracking plastic and paint. As I guessed they denied it saying it came in like that NOT !!! or I wouldn't say it. They are slobs and if you have a high end car especially STAY FAR AWAY ! Hoffman's came to my rescue road side after my car broke down. They towed the car to the shop and gave me a quote for the required work in a timely manner. They were super transparent with me and kept an open line of communication throughout the whole process. Which I greatly appreciated. What you can expect from the store when outside temp dropped below 25, covered with snow everywhere and your car starts malfunctioning in a small village like Lake Placid? You dont expect a five star service, with free wifi, coffee, waiting room, tv channels and then big estimate process? Rather warm welcome, quick checking and diagnostics and providing the resolution, personally care each of the customers? I am very much satisfied with them.

Hoffman Auto was awesome. I called to make an appointment for an oil change. They told me on Friday they couldn't fit me until Monday or Tuesday. I hung up disappointed because I am from Chicago and didn't dawn on me that I couldn't get in for an oil change same day. However Hoffman called me back about 2 hours later (using caller ID and remembered my name) and told me they were ahead of schedule and they could fit me in. Awesome customer service!!!!

Hoffman Auto is outstanding, and I only wish I lived closer to bring all of my vehicle service issues to them. I needed a NYS safety inspection completed on my new car. Not only was I calling last-minute, but I really needed the inspection taken care of during the few days I was in the area. Coming up from Brooklyn for a long weekend on the slopes I started hearing an awful squealing sound from my driveshaft. Driving a 96' Tacoma with 247,000 miles on it, strange sounds aren't that uncommon. I cannot say enough great things about these guys! I was visiting Lake Placid for a weekend getaway with a group of friends when we noticed my car was acting funny on our way down Whiteface. We were SO lucky to find an auto repair shop 1.) before we broke down in the middle of nowhere and 2.) that was open on a Saturday afternoon! I rolled up to the shop and someone came out to help us immediately.
