My typical session lasts about 1-2 hours. A week prior to the session, I provide an email to my clients with detailed instructions on how to prepare for a successful shoot. In my experience, every baby is different in how they perceive and interact with their surroundings but there are best practices in being able to help the baby feel comfortable.

Newborns are best photographed when they are sleepy and within the first week (or so) of their lives. Newborn photography is definitely challenging but the most rewarding! Here are a few tips in planning preparation to make it an even more successful newborn session. In the first few weeks of their life, newborns need 16-20 hours of sleep.

Newborns are best when photographed within the first two weeks, however, we welcome newborns of any age. For newborns sessions, my newborn photography studio in Northern Virginia has a comprehensive supply of blankets, headbands, tieback, knits and props. If you wish to include personal items, you may bring them.
