In 1994, Peter Garland left behind a burgeoning career in public relations to open Porta Via when Canon Drive was the quietest street in the Beverly Hills business district. Borrowing money from family, Peter sensed a solid business opportunity by serving the clients of four legendary hair stylists with salons on the block.
Porta Via, Italian for "take away, " offered a menu that would travel well focused on fresh baked goods, locally sourced produce, quality meats and seafood. Not only did the concept succeed in the salons, Porta Via soon attracted locals who lived and worked nearby. Starting with only # tables in 900 square feet, Peter stood out front to draw people in with his welcoming personality.
