Welcome to The Altenheim, where charming and comfortable senior community living is situated in the Louisville Highlands. The Altenheim also offers an array of recreational programs under the direction of our Activity Director. We offer exercise classes, concerts, educational events, plays, day trips and religious services, just to name a few.
The Altenheim's independent senior living and personal care apartments and suites are bright and modern, with spacious bathrooms, showers and kitchenettes. Our private and semi-private rooms in our nursing facility include flat-screen televisions, free basic cable and wi-fi for residents and visitors.

In the early 1900's, German immigrants came to Louisville and acknowledged a need for a place to care for their elders. After much discussion, in 1905, they purchased a home with acreage located in the Louisville Highlands. This had been the summer home of the Stewart family, owners of Stewart's Department Store in downtown Louisville and New York City.

Our dining services provide a seasonal resident menu, as well as always available deli sandwiches, chef salads, classic hamburgers, fresh fruit and other snacks. Residents can choose what they prefer to eat. Our dietitian reviews each resident's intake for weight gain and loss and makes recommendations for healthy changes.

The Altenheim has apartment suites for independent living. Apartments have an efficiency kitchenette, full bath with shower and spacious living quarters with a separate bedroom. All apartments have emergency call cords to pull in case of emergency. Linen service, housekeeping, personal laundry service and meals are provided at no additional charge.
Activities
Report
Residents assist the director in planning their monthly activities in the community as well as at the facility. As our resident population changes, the activities change to meet their needs. We encourage our residents to socialize and develop friendships within our senior living community. We are open to their suggestions and strive to provide a positive, vibrant environment.

We were so very pleased with the care that my aunt received at the Altenheim. She went in skeptical as many do, but spent the last 1 years the happiest I have seen her in a long long time. The staff was amazing with her and she made so many friends while she was there. The activities they provided kept her social and more alert.
