Adoptions

Families arrive at the decision to adopt a child or children for a multitude of reasons. A dependency is when a child is made a temporary ward of the court because of an allegation that there is no appropriate parent willing or able to parent at the time the petition was filed. The Department of Child Safety (DCS), formerly known as Child Protective Services (CPS) is the most common petitioner in dependency cases.
Guardianships

There are two different guardianships available for children in Arizona. They are commonly referred to as Title 8 or Title 14 guardianships, named for the titles under which they are found in the Arizona Revised Statutes. Guardianships are used to provide legal authority of a child or children, while parental rights remain intact.
