At Asheville Academy of TaeKwonDo we offer martial arts classes for women, men, and children of all ages. Martial arts practice is a great way to get in shape while learning self defense, self discipline and building confidence. We have been Asheville's premier martial arts school since 1991. We teach TaeKwondo, Hapkido (self-defense), Tai Chi, Qigong and boxing basics in a supportive and encouraging environment.
We are conveniently located in Asheville at 237 Sardis Road and offer classes in the afternoon, evenings, and weekends. At the Asheville Academy of Taekwondo we offer classes 5 days per week to accommodate all ages and stages of life. Our classes are for children ages 5-12, teens, and adults. Every class is planned to include aspects of traditional martial arts training, self defense, physical fitness, and fun!

About Us

Our school was opened by Master Richard Tener in August of 1991. After 29 years of service to the Asheville area, Master Tener passed the Academy on to Mr. Paul Toney, who currently owns and runs the school. We are under the auspices of the American Taekwondo Foundation and the World Taekwondo Federation.
Our School
Report
To provide a vehicle for the mental, emotional, and physical development of all those involved. Here at the Asheville Academy of Taekwondo, we feel that training in the martial arts should provide so much more than just learning to kick and punch. Our training programs also offer a good physical fitness program that includes a system of self defense training.

My goal is to help children build a strong character in a positive environment. Teaching discipline and coordination is a challenge I enjoy. As an instructor of Taekwondo, I'm constantly reminded that personal success comes from helping others reach their goals. The American Taekwondo Foundation (ATF) was founded by Grand Master Y.S. Chung in 1988.
