Midland's old-timers recall Thomas Atkinson's funeral business which was located at 109 East Main Street. After operating out of an office location at the 109 East Main Street address for a few years, Scott Wilson moved the business to the corner of Ashman and Larkin. After attending the Midland schools, Scott Wilson went to Evart, Michigan in 1903 to serve his apprenticeship under his uncle, George B. Wilson, who operated a funeral business.

She graduated from Midland High School in 1945. Ilene worked for The Dow Chemical Company in various positions for 20 years retiring in 1982. She was active in the Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. Ilene enjoyed spending time at her home in Bradenton, Florida. She spent many. The daughter of the late George W. and Hazel R. (Bechtel) Riggie was born in Homer Township.
