Starting out as a "store-front funeral home" on East Walnut Street, we were told we would never succeed -- a new business with no parking and no chapel. However, we viewed things differently. We had the whole city of Goldsboro for parking -- and didn't have to sweep our own parking lot! During our first year of business we served 30 families.
Through our guidance and professionalism, our business tripled by our second year, allowing us to serve 90 families. In 2001, recognizing another need in the community, Howell Funeral Home & Crematory expanded its services to include a separate pet crematory. We also added a full line of pet memorial products including urns, markers, and pet caskets.

At no charge to the family, we donate a customized Wilbert Stainless Steel Triune burial vault when traditional burial is chosen.

While attitudes toward burial, cremation, prearrangement, and funeral services continue to change, some things remain very much the same.
Funerals

The traditional funeral service is held with the body present, with either an open or closed casket, within two or three days of death. The family decides whether the service is to be public or private. At a typical traditional funeral, a member of the clergy officiates the service in the church or in the funeral home chapel.
