Services
The Front Royal / Warren Chamber of Commerce has recognized Griffin Tavern as Business of the Year 2017-18! We would like to thank those of you that supported our nomination through letters and phone calls. It wasn't easy keeping this quiet to surprise Debbie! Over the years Debbie has organized dinners and fundraisers for local organizations and donated Tavern gift cards to school functions and silent auctions.
Debbie is the owner. She and her husband Jim purchased land in Rappahannock County in 1997 and decided the area needed a social gathering place. Neither of them had run, let alone owned, a restaurant before! You should feel as if you're coming home and your seat at the table has been saved just for you.

A casual and fun place. We showed up for dinner and ended up playing trivia. The staff was fab and so were the locals. For a casual good time and decent food this is a great place to hang out.

Road trip! Hubby and I left DC for the day and headed towards Washington, Virginia. Decided to stop for lunch in Flint Hill for some casual eats before checking into our fancy hotel. There wasn't a huge selection to choose from, but I think we did okay with Griffin Tavern.

The menu consistent of some standard pub fare: wings, burgers, and fried things but with a few British pub items thrown in the mix. There was a special when we were there - at least, I think it was a special; it was not on the printed menu - of Duck Drummies, little baby duck legs. They were tossed in an Asian BBQ

We met friends for lunch and were seated, upon request, outside on the porch. It was an eye-popper of a day - a perfect 72 degrees, sunny with a slight breeze. Within moments, our server approached our table. We were immediately impressed by George's jovial attitude and positive energy. We ordered Napoleon's Nosh for the table, white wine, a beer and an iced tea. The charcuterie consisted of a delicious olive mix, cornichons with pickled tiny onions, two wedges of cheese (possibly manchego and cheddar) goat cheese accompanied by pepper jelly and honey and dry salami all very fresh and

Yesterday was our most recent visit to Griffin Tavern and, as in the past, we're very glad we stopped. Even though the parking lot was quite full, we were greeted immediately on entering and shown to a quite nice outdoor table. We like the selection of draft beers & cider and our drink order was quickly taken and fulfilled by our brilliant and attentive server Celeste. My wife ordered the Greek Salmon Salad and I ordered the Charcuterie Tray and Fried Oyster appetizers. The charcuterie tray was good, but the kitchen really nailed the seafood. The oysters were HUGE and were cooked PERFECTLY

Quiet lunch with some friends. Pretty good place to meet. Cod on fish and chips was amazing. However portion was small especially for $17. Husband had bangers and mash and also felt it was small. Not sure if we will go back.

So to be fair I am rating based on a bad experience not the food. We had a reservation for tonight and confirmed reservation by text yesterday. Showed up and the restaurant is closed because of bad weather. No cam, no text. Very disappointing. Won't be back

I'm going to upgrade my review based on recent experiences. The location makes it very convenient and frequently there really isn't another option that works as well so I gave it a few more tries.

I've now dined there with a variety of different friends, at different times of day and eating both inside and on the patio. For the most part these experiences have been much, much better than our first one so I'm glad I didn't write them off completely and will likely eat there again at the next opportunity.

My husband and I made the excellent decision to hold a casual rehearsal dinner here before our micro-wedding this past weekend. The space was charming, cozy, and private (with open windows for COVID purposes), and the meal itself was outstanding. Special shout-out to Christine, who helped us plan down to the tiniest detail over the past two months and staffed the entire event almost single-handedly. Chef Mike created a custom menu featuring local flavors, and everything was cooked to perfection. This is a wonderful - and affordable - option for anyone getting married or hosting an event in the

Food and service were excellent! Thank you for being dog friendly and offering a special spot on the patio - complete with ice water bowl - for our pup. Red snapper was delicious and the strawberry gelato was too. We'll definitely be back!

Stayed the night at an inn just down the road and decided to eat dinner here. Was able to get an outside table at a good time with no fuss on a Sunday night. As far as appetizers go, she ordered the fried green tomato burrata and it was quite good indeed. I was curious about the Coconut Avocado Fries so went that route. It was pleasant and interesting but kind of lacking in flavor. Her fish and chips was cooked absolutely perfectly with a delicious batter coating. The fries they use for the "chips" are a little atypical but not nearly as seasoned as they look from a distance so

I've been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for quite some time. Unfortunately the anticipation wasn't worth it. I ordered a medium rare hamburger while my husband had the fish and chips. The burger was a disaster - well done and dried out with burnt bacon. My husband's fish and chips was average. At this restaurant's price point we expected much better.

This was my first time here for lunch with my family after we toured the Luray Caverns. My party of 6 did not have a reservation. When we arrived we were seated almost immediately at a nice table inside because it was too hot to eat outside. I started with and enjoyed my two "Mary's Top Shelf Margaritas with salted rim" for $10 each. I also enjoyed their Shepherd's pie for $19. A Boddingtons draft pint was $6.50. My family enjoyed their Ploughmans Plate for $15, the All American Hamburger for $13 and the Mojo Burger for $14.50.

My total bill was $163 excluding gratuities. Jacob

First off, we heard tons of great things about this place and we were all excited to eat here. The restaurant is literally a house, very cool to see.

We arrived at dinner time and were able to get outdoor seating with no wait. The back patio outdoor seating is situated next to a cemetery which was kinda cool. The waiter was quick at the beginning then the place began to get busy and the service slowed. The manager came over to help and she was awesome. She also explained it was the waiters first day alone.

The drinks took a bit longer than usual to get but we figured it was busy so no big deal

Brilliant find. If you in the area check it out. This place does not shy away from what it is. It is a pub with pub food and it is delicious. We had the Thai Soup, Chowder, Mexican and Scotch Egg. It was brilliant!

Check it out. Well worth the effort.

Rock on guys!

YUM! We were expecting good food, but we didn't know just how delicious it would be! Griffin Tavern is clearly a well known place in the area, and as quirky as the inside is (multiple small dining rooms, as the building is truly a house rather than a restaurant), I can see why it has four stars on Yelp.

My official rating: 5 stars for the food, 3 for the dining room experience. The rooms are charming in their own way, but it's a bit odd having everyone so separate. And it was drafty by the windows. With that being said, my husband's burger and fries were exceptional, and my shepherd

We used to frequent this nice restaurant a couple of years ago, especially when visiting wine country.... But we simply hadn't had the chance to return. So, we came back recently, on a very busy Saturday evening for dinner with foodie friends and we absolutely enjoyed ourselves!

Service - Friendly, suggestive, helpful, informative and with a smile!

Menu - Wow... hard to choose from! Whether we wanted to eat healthy (with a couple of nicely-prepared fish dishes) or not (with a crazy burger selection and lots of other options), they have a very nicely created, diverse menu! My only issue

What a great find just driving by. Local establishment that caters to all. Sat in the bar area and had great service offered by George. The bar is large and well stocked with a large beer selection too.

Dinner menu had items from lunch in addition to nightly specials. Seafood and British dishes dominate the menu but I had the grilled pork chop. It was excellent. Wife had the Rockfish. Also great. Best was the fried tofu appetizer.

Highly recommend if you are in the area.

This is an awesome place. We stopped by this place on our way to Lurrays.

Very friendly staff. Took time to explain the menu and were just awesome.

The food just great. The pizzas, the green curry ...everything had so much flavor.

The best part - Shepherds pie - full of meat and just awesome. Will highly recommend this.

Awesome experience !!
